While my friends all took off for Europe for the summer holidays I was working in screen printing shops all summer. This is part storyboard, part a dream of what my summer vacation was supposed to be like.

I lived in the Laurentian mountains north of Montreal. As a boy, I would walk deep into the forests around Ste-Agathe-des-Monts to explore the wonders that existed within. The forest became my home and sanctuary, very much like my studios are today.

This series of paintings and drawings were inspired by the story of the Knights Templar, and in particular the legend of secret societies. One part of the legend is that women and men were equals in the leadership, so many of my images contain women in them.

What happens to women behind closed doors and away from public view is very disturbing. Abuse doesn't always leave visible marks. The abuser always says that he loves her but mistreats her in every way possible. The woman in this painting has a black-eye and the viewer is meant to feel the darkness around her abuse.

The Rock of Gibraltar inspired this collage painting. It is a monolith that has stood the test of time. Man has fought for it and defended it generation after generation. Long after the human race is gone, it will remain.
